The Beginning

Nya Schara and Walker Malmin are the kind of people you meet and think “I think they are meant to be together.” At least that’s what Nya’s brother thought when he set her up with his baseball coach, not unprovoked though. Ten years earlier when their older brother was playing, 13 year old Nya announced to the crowd that had gathered for the little league game that she was going to marry that coach. Though Walker didn’t hear it, he later said she at least waited until the second date to inform him of their future. (Though I must note as Nya’s friend, she called me right after the first date to tell me she had found her husband.)

The father of the bride recounted at the rehearsal dinner that Nya was not the first to fall in love with Walker, that honor went to the oldest son, but it has all been downhill from there and now the whole family adores him.

Walker not only coaches a youth rec baseball team, he is also a special education teacher. A perfect fit to Nya’s passion of working with adults with disabilities. As newly weds, they now both work in group homes where the residents love them and love them together.
